“To allow all the materials in these TV’s to be dumped in landfills around Australia would be a national disgrace, especially when we are so close to implementing the product stewardship scheme,” he said.
He said the phased introduction of the digital network should be delayed to coincide with the regional roll out of the product stewardship scheme so that the recovery of end of life TV’s was achieved.
“The regional roll out of TV take back systems under the Product Stewardship Scheme should be synchronised with the digital changeover so that the glass, plastics, phosphorous and other resources in TV are able to be recovered and reused rather than wasted,” he said.
