Outgoing ACOR President Calls on Industry to Engage

“ACOR is an industry based association that needs to be run by industry not by consultants,” he said.

“As president, I have always maintained that it is important that the running of ACOR stays very much in the hands of the industry players.”

“ACOR is really starting to make a difference and its presence is being recognised within industry as well as in State and Federal Governments. You can see how much ACOR is expanding with the work load that is now being required of our national secretariat.”

Mr Haywood said the new national CEO of ACOR, Rod Welford, had been a real asset since he was engaged 2 years ago and his vision for the Council was “a massive benefit to the Recycling Industry at many levels”.

“I think any business that is interested in the sustainable use of our resources whether in transport, processing, or reuse should now become a member of the Council,” Mr Haywood said.

“The recycling industry is already a multimillion dollar industry but is yet to be fully recognised on the Federal Government’s radar. Yet, we are one of the largest and fastest growing employment groups in Australia. With the correct policies we can double in size over rhe next 5-10 years.”

“It is important that as Governments at State and Federal levels begin to recognise the value and size of the industry, we have a strong and united voice to lobby and engage with them as they develop policy.”

“Although I must relinquish the role of President of ACOR, I would encourage any recycling companies who have not yet joined ACOR to get on board,” he said.
“If we do not engage with the Governments at this time of growth and change, we have no right to complain if we do not get the outcomes we are looking for.”
