Advanced Recycling
Australasia (ARA) is the only EPA approved Mercury
distilling facility in Australia. ARA was purchased by
Universal Metals Pty Ltd some two and a half years ago and
falls under the banner of Ecocycle Industries, a wholly
owned subsidiary of Universal Metals.
Formed in January 1996,
Alcoa Australia Rolled Products is a 50:50 partnership
between Kobe Steel Limited of Japan – Japan’s leading
producer of rolled aluminium – and Alcoa Inc. – the world’s
leading producer of aluminium and alumina.
Alcoa Australia Rolled
Products business is aluminium rolled products. We
manufacture aluminium cansheet, for the production of
beverage cans, aluminium foil, and common alloy sheet and
coil. In addition, Alcoa Australia Rolled Products
provides a comprehensive range of common alloy and foil
products for use in the marine, construction and packaging
industries.
The Alex Fraser Group currently
processes in excess of 750,0001 tonnes of recycled concrete per annum and maintains an
ongoing research and development program specialising in recyclable materials, technology
and value added products.
Amcor Australasia is a major
manufacturer of metal, plastic and fibre packaging in Australia and New Zealand and is
currently building a glass packaging plant in South Australia.
Astron Plastics has been
at the forefront of recycling industrial plastics for over
20 years helping businesses in Australasia with active and
sustainable ways of reducing their waste and becoming more
environmentally responsible.
One key area of focus for post-consumer recycling by
Australian Vinyls is the management of the PVC bottle
industry’s recycling project, “Vinyl Cycle”. This project
involves the use of innovative cryogenic technology to
reprocess post-consumer PVC bottles collected from the
kerbside, into a powder which can be used to replace virgin
resin on a one-for-one basis. This powder is currently used in
the manufacture of vinyl flooring and sewer pipe fittings
Fisher & Paykel is an international appliance
company using innovation to develop unique, stylish and
practical appliances for consumers around the world.
Appliances are manufactured in New Zealand and Australia.
Product stewardship has also been part of the Fisher &
Paykel culture for many years and a product recovery
facility was established in Auckland in 1993 for the return
of appliances.
The first plant was opened by the former NSW
Premier in September 2004. The plant was commissioned
throughout 2004-05. The plant is designed to process 175,000
tonnes per annum. Global Renewables was selected as the
preferred bidder to design, build, own and operate the
Lancashire Waste Partnership (PFI) Project a network of 7
waste processing facilities in the the Lancashire region of
the United Kingdom to treat up to 900,000 t/a of municipal
household waste over 25 years.
Norske-Skog is the only
Australasian newsprint producer. The company operates 3 mills in the Australasian region
at Albury NSW and Boyer Tasmania and Kawerau in New Zealand.
Norstar Steel Recyclers (NSR) is Australia’s largest
privately owned scrap metal recycler. NSR was established in 1952
and from humble beginnings, the Company now processes approximately
150,000 tonnes of steel scrap annually, employing more than 40
people at its Laverton, Dandenong and Reservoir sites in Victoria.
Formed out of the takeover by Onesteel in August 2007
of the Smorgon Steel group and in particular Smorgon Steel’s
Recycling division (itself formerly known as ‘Metalcorp Recyclers’),
the business now trades as Onesteel Recycling, employing over 700
people.
ACI Packaging parent company, Owens - Illinois is
changing it's trading name to O-I. All plants, businesses and
subsidiaries world wide will be known as O-I. The identity change is
part of a transformation strategy to refocus company business and
leverage the global capabilities. In Australia it is planned for
this transition to be complete by June 1st 2005
Resourceco is the major recycler of Construction and
Demolition (C&D) Waste in South Australia. The business was
established in 1990 and today recycles more than 800,000 tonnes of
inert waste each year.
Sell and Parker which was established in 1964 and the primary
business is scrap steel collection, processing and recycling
operating Australia’s most modern scrap shearing yards at
Waterloo and Blacktown, NSW.
Sims Group is a global metals recycling, resource
recovery and industrial services group. The company has more than
110 operations in eight countries and a turnover in excess of $2
billion.
Visy Recycling recycles paper,
plastic, glass, aluminium and steel cans together with many other materials generated
through kerbside recycling. The company has operations throughout Australia and New
Zealand.
The strength of ACOR is that its members represent the leading
resource recovery and
recycling companies in Australia, reprocessing in excess of 11,300,000 tonnes per annum.
When ACOR members take a position on an issue which impacts adversely on members
operations the group is able to effectively lobby government for the removal of barriers
that hinder effective resource recovery and recycling.
A company shall be eligible to be a corporate member if it
complies with such criteria as the Board may from time to time
determine including but not limited to the following:
Core business activity is recycling and/or resource
recovery
Direct capital investment in infrastructure to support
the member's business
Established processes to value add recovered materials
Significance as an operator in the recycling and or
resource recovery sector
