Cameron O'Reilly, Interim CEO

Cameron O’Reilly has an extensive background in energy and resources, working across government, the private sector and industry association leadership.

Cameron was an Executive Director and Principal Energy Advisor in the NSW Department of Planning, Industry & Environment (DPIE) where he was involved in the development of the NSW Transmission Infrastructure Strategy (2018), the NSW Electricity Strategy (2019) and the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap (2020). He was also one of the State’s energy emergency officers through the bushfire crisis in the summer of 2019-20.

Between 2015-2017 Cameron was the Chief Executive of the Aged Care Guild and prior to that served for nine years as the Chief Executive of the Energy Retailers Association of Australia (ERAA), the peak industry body for retailers of electricity and gas in Australia’s national energy markets (now part of the Australian Energy Council). While at ERAA Cameron successfully advocated for the deregulation of the retail energy markets in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland.

Beyond recycling and resource recovery, he is also a Non-Executive Director of mental health and counselling not for profit, Relationships Australia.

Cameron is acting as the Interim CEO of the Australian Council of Recycling. A process to select a long-term replacement will commence in the second half of March, 2021.
